If you drive for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Amazon Flex, Instacart or Walmart Spark in Tampa Bay, having a reliable vehicle can determine whether you are able to keep working. A weekly gig-driver rental can help when your own car is unavailable, but it is important to understand the cost, minimum rental period and approval requirements before applying.

This checklist explains what Tampa Bay drivers should prepare before requesting a vehicle from MyTampaCars. Our vehicles are offered only to approved gig workers—not for ordinary personal-use or daily-driver rentals.

1. Confirm that you are an active gig worker

Applicants should have an active account with a supported rideshare or delivery platform. MyTampaCars serves drivers working with platforms such as Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Amazon Flex, Instacart and Spark. Your account and planned use may be reviewed during the approval process.

If your main work is carrying passengers, review our Uber and Lyft car rental information. Delivery drivers can review our delivery-driver rental options.

2. Understand the weekly plans and minimum terms

Rental plans currently start at the following amounts:

The available plan, assigned vehicle and final weekly price depend on current vehicle availability and driver approval. Insurance is not included. A security deposit, 7% tax, tolls and applicable agreement fees may also apply. Review the complete public summary on our Rental Policies & Fees page.

3. Prepare your driver and insurance documents

Before applying, have a valid driver’s license and current contact information available. Approved renters must maintain the insurance required for the assigned vehicle and rental agreement. Because insurance is not included in the advertised weekly rate, include that cost when deciding whether a rental works for your budget.

Vehicle and insurance requirements can differ by platform and may change. Drivers are responsible for confirming that the assigned vehicle and their insurance satisfy the current rules of the platform they plan to use.

4. Confirm that you work in the approved Tampa Bay service area

MyTampaCars primarily serves approved gig workers operating in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties. That includes drivers working throughout Tampa, Brandon, Town ’N’ Country, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Largo, New Port Richey, Wesley Chapel and nearby communities within the approved service area.

If most of your driving will take place outside these counties, discuss it before signing an agreement. Geographic limits help protect the vehicle and keep the program focused on Tampa Bay drivers.

5. Budget for more than the advertised weekly rate

A responsible weekly budget should consider every likely expense, not just rent. Depending on your agreement and use, your total operating costs may include:

Ask questions before signing. Your signed rental agreement controls the final price, responsibilities and fees for your specific rental.

6. Inspect the vehicle before beginning work

At pickup, inspect the vehicle carefully and document its condition. Take clear photos or video of the exterior, interior, wheels, fuel level and mileage. Report existing damage immediately instead of waiting until the vehicle is returned.

During the rental, keep the vehicle clean, monitor warning lights and report mechanical concerns promptly. Do not allow an unauthorized person to drive it. Accidents, theft, damage or platform-related incidents should be reported according to the rental agreement and insurance requirements.

7. Confirm the vehicle with your gig platform

MyTampaCars provides vehicles for qualified gig workers, but Uber, Lyft and delivery companies control their own driver and vehicle approvals. A rental does not guarantee acceptance by any particular platform. Confirm eligibility before relying on a vehicle for work, especially if the platform has model-year, inspection, insurance or document requirements.

8. Decide whether the minimum period fits your work plan

This program is not designed for someone who needs a vehicle for only a few days. The shortest available plan starts at two weeks. Before applying, estimate how many hours you expect to work, your expected operating expenses and whether the minimum rental period makes financial sense for you.
